The Mireman

For years, Cuith had everything: an esteemed position in a great house; a ward, Whit, who loved him; a powerful family who called him their own. And his closest friend in the world—beautiful, tender-hearted Fianna—was more than happy to fall into bed with him at the end of a hot marsh day.

Then, without warning, Fianna left him.

A decade later, Fianna's absence grown too much for Cuith to bear, he rides north to find his friend on the vast and mysterious Highmire, where Fianna now serves as a mireman: one who performs the funeral rites of landed women, who keeps the sacred bog and stewards its ghosts.

He does not know what he will find there, but he must see Fianna again. He must know for certain if the love that once existed between them still draws breath, or whether it has sunk into the fathomless waters, dead and gone.
